Barracuda CloudGen Firewall lifecycle status — the real story
Barracuda CloudGen Firewall (formerly NextGen Firewall F-Series) appliances: the F-series desktop and rack models, the SC Secure Connectors and the C400 and C610 Firewall Control Center appliances. Cycles are model revisions as Barracuda prints them (for example F80 Rev. A and F80 Rev. B are separate rows with separate dates). Field mapping: support is Barracuda's 'EoS & EoHS' (End of Sale, the last order date, also the end of new hardware-support purchases); eol is 'EoFS (EoL)', which Barracuda defines as the 'last day of firmware support for this hardware and firmware product bundle'. Barracuda's rule: 'After the End-of-Sales (EoS) of a hardware model, the model will be maintained/supported by firmware for the next 5 years.' The last firmware release that supports an ended model is carried where Barracuda prints it (lastSupportingRelease, for example 9.0.4 for the F80 Rev. A). Rows Barracuda marks 'not set' are current hardware, served as no date announced.
Barracuda's own caveat on what EoL means: 'EoL or EoFS for hardware means that the specific hardware model/revision is no longer available in future major releases and thus the upgrade to the next major release is no longer possible. The upgrade to next minor releases remains possible but are untested', and 'The product will be completely End-of-Life when the last supporting FW release reaches its End of Support'. Firmware lines and their end dates (10.5.0 November 2028, 10.0 End of May 2027, 9.0 End of March 2027) are on a separate page that Barracuda labels forward-looking; they are not served here.
As read on 2026-10-10: 40 of 63 revisions are past EoFS; the F180 Rev. A and F183 Rev. A ended July 31, 2026, the F280 Rev. B February 28, 2026 and the F380 Rev. A January 31, 2026; the F82 Rev. A and F183R Rev. A end February 28, 2027 and the F800 Rev. C and F900 Rev. C on February 28, 2030. Barracuda prints the F900 Rev. A dates as 2016-11-31 and 2021-11-31, days that do not exist; that revision is served as ended with no published day. Modems (M10 to M42) and licences on the same page are not modelled. KEV: no CISA KEV entry names CloudGen or NextGen Firewall (catalog 2026.10.08).
Barracuda CloudGen Firewall release and support pattern
Of the 63 release lines tracked, 40 are past end of life and 23 are still within support; 1 is marked end of life without a published date. The next scheduled end of life is F82 Rev. A on February 28, 2027 — 140 days from this build. The longest-supported line currently published is F900 Rev. B, to February 28, 2030.
Computed from the tracked release data at every build — the figures above are the dates in the table, restated, not an editorial estimate.
What does Barracuda CloudGen Firewall end of life mean for your organization?
When a version of Barracuda CloudGen Firewall reaches end of life, the maintainers stop issuing security patches. Vulnerabilities discovered after this date are publicly disclosed on the National Vulnerability Database, exploit code appears on GitHub, and your systems remain permanently exposed.
The CVE blind spot: A CVE-based scan does not show the accumulation of unpatched vulnerabilities in EOL software. Some scanners flag unsupported versions of common products, but coverage varies, and none of them give you the date in advance. With a zero-day, nobody knows about the vulnerability. With EOL software, the vulnerability is public — listed, rated, and often weaponized — but no vendor patch is coming. This is one of the most dangerous gaps in enterprise security posture.
Organizations running EOL Barracuda CloudGen Firewall should treat it as a vulnerability class in their risk register, apply compensating controls (network segmentation, enhanced monitoring, access restriction), and prioritize migration to a supported version.
Your options when Barracuda CloudGen Firewall reaches end of life
There are four realistic paths. Which one is right depends far more on how long the system needs to keep running than on the version you are on today.
| Option | Best when | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Move to a supported version | The system will outlive the current version's support window and you can schedule the work | Budget for compatibility testing, not just the upgrade itself — that is where the real cost sits |
| Replace the component | The project is unmaintained, or a better-supported alternative exists | The replacement has its own lifecycle and its own end-of-life date — you are changing vendors, not escaping the problem |
| Buy extended support | Migration is genuinely underway but cannot finish before the deadline, or the workload is frozen by certification or a third-party application | A bridge, not a destination — every year purchased is a year the migration still has to happen |
| Document accepted risk | The system is isolated, short-lived, or scheduled for retirement | Only defensible with real compensating controls and a written decision — auditors treat undocumented end-of-life software as a finding |
How to choose, in one question: how many more years does this system need to run? Under a year, extended support (where it exists) is usually cheaper than an emergency migration. One to three years, migrate — support purchased repeatedly costs more than doing the project once, and the project only gets harder as the version ages. Indefinitely, migrate now and plan the next migration before it surprises you.
Worth saying plainly, because vendors selling extended support rarely will: extended support is often the more expensive choice over a multi-year horizon. It is the right answer when a deadline is genuinely unreachable, not as a default. Compare the annual fee against the one-time cost of migrating before committing to either.

Extended Support Options
If you cannot migrate immediately, extended support vendors provide continued security patches for EOL Barracuda CloudGen Firewall versions. This is a bridge, not a permanent solution — plan your migration in parallel.
Barracuda CloudGen Firewall has 40 versions past end of life — security patches have stopped, but CVE disclosures haven't. Extended support past the official date exists for many products in this position — whether it exists for Barracuda CloudGen Firewall is exactly what we check. Tell us where to reach you and we'll reply with matched options and pricing guidance — or an honest "no vendor covers this."
