Dell storage and HCI (hardware) End of Life (EOL) Dates & Support Timeline

Dell storage and HCI (hardware) lifecycle status — the real story

Dell storage and HCI hardware covers Dell's (formerly Dell EMC and EMC) storage arrays, data protection appliances and hyperconverged systems: PowerStore, Dell Unity, PowerMax, VMAX and Symmetrix, PowerScale and Isilon nodes, Data Domain and the PowerProtect DD and DP appliances, XtremIO, VNX and VNXe, SC Series (Compellent), EqualLogic PS Series, VPLEX and Metro node, ECS, VxRail, PowerFlex, Avamar Data Store, RecoverPoint and PowerVault tape libraries. Cycles on this page are platforms as Dell names them, including the regional rows Dell prints separately (' - EU Countries', '(EMEA)'). Every date comes from Dell's own spreadsheet 'Dell Hardware Release and End of Service Life Notifications', attached to Dell KB article 000185734 (public, no sign-in) and dated 2026-10-16. It was read twice on 2026-10-24: parsed by tools/dell-storage.mjs and, from a separate download, by Python openpyxl (all 1,473 sheet rows identical); the tool refuses to write on any difference. The weekly verifier re-reads the spreadsheet and compares every cycle field by field.

Field mapping, in Dell's words from the sheet's own legend: 'EOL or End of sales is the date upon which Dell Technologies ceases selling product' (the support date here, as on the other hardware pages, so Dell's 'EOL Date' is never served as end of life), and EOSS is 'The date after which Standard support (Basic, ProSupport, ProSupport MC, ProSupport Plus) is no longer available' (the eol date here). releaseDate is Dell's RTS date. End of Expansion, the last day to add drives, shelves or controllers, is carried as Dell prints it. A blank cell is a date Dell has not announced, and none is served. Two rows print an end of sale before their own release (SC9000, Isilon IQ 6000i); those two dates are not served and the EOSS date stands. Data Domain disk shelves, PowerScale back-end switches and Connectrix SAN switches are not modelled. Dell notes that its dates are subject to change.

Dell storage and HCI (hardware) release and support pattern

Of the 432 release lines tracked, 261 are past end of life and 171 are still within support. The newest line, Data Domain All-Flash Ready Node, was released April 16, 2025. The next scheduled end of life is RecoverPoint Gen6 Server on January 31, 2027 — 98 days from this build. The longest-supported line currently published is Dell Unity XT 880 - EU Countries, to January 31, 2033.

Computed from the tracked release data at every build — the figures above are the dates in the table, restated, not an editorial estimate.

What does Dell storage and HCI (hardware) end of life mean for your organization?

When a version of Dell storage and HCI (hardware) reaches end of life, the maintainers stop issuing security patches. Vulnerabilities discovered after this date are publicly disclosed on the National Vulnerability Database, exploit code appears on GitHub, and your systems remain permanently exposed.

The CVE blind spot: A CVE-based scan does not show the accumulation of unpatched vulnerabilities in EOL software. Some scanners flag unsupported versions of common products, but coverage varies, and none of them give you the date in advance. With a zero-day, nobody knows about the vulnerability. With EOL software, the vulnerability is public — listed, rated, and often weaponized — but no vendor patch is coming. This is one of the most dangerous gaps in enterprise security posture.

Organizations running EOL Dell storage and HCI (hardware) should treat it as a vulnerability class in their risk register, apply compensating controls (network segmentation, enhanced monitoring, access restriction), and prioritize migration to a supported version.

Your options when Dell storage and HCI (hardware) reaches end of life

There are four realistic paths. Which one is right depends far more on how long the system needs to keep running than on the version you are on today.

How to choose, in one question: how many more years does this system need to run? Under a year, extended support (where it exists) is usually cheaper than an emergency migration. One to three years, migrate — support purchased repeatedly costs more than doing the project once, and the project only gets harder as the version ages. Indefinitely, migrate now and plan the next migration before it surprises you.

Worth saying plainly, because vendors selling extended support rarely will: extended support is often the more expensive choice over a multi-year horizon. It is the right answer when a deadline is genuinely unreachable, not as a default. Compare the annual fee against the one-time cost of migrating before committing to either.

Extended Support Options

If you cannot migrate immediately, check whether the vendor or a third party sells extended support with security patches for your Dell storage and HCI (hardware) version; coverage varies by product and version. Where it exists it is a bridge, not a permanent solution — plan your migration in parallel.
