Microsoft Edge End of Support: How Long Each Version Is Supported
A Microsoft Edge version is only patched while it is the latest one. Edge follows Microsoft's Modern Lifecycle Policy, and security and servicing updates go only to the latest Stable release (and the latest Beta). Starting with Stable version 152, which shipped on August 27, 2026, a new major version arrives every two weeks, so each Stable version is serviced for about two weeks. Organizations that manage their devices can use the Extended Stable channel instead: every fourth Stable release is also an Extended Stable release, and it stays current for eight weeks. Before version 152, Stable shipped every four weeks and every second release was an Extended Stable release. The change shortens the life of a Stable version and leaves the Extended Stable window where it was.

Edge and the operating system under it
Edge's support also depends on Windows. Microsoft says Edge and the WebView2 Runtime will continue to receive updates on Windows 10 22H2 until at least October 2028, in line with the end of the Windows 10 Extended Security Updates program. That keeps the browser patched on a Windows 10 machine; it does not patch Windows itself unless the device is enrolled in that program. Our Windows dates cover that side.
What to do
- Unmanaged PCs: leave automatic updates on and check
edge://settings/helpon any machine that has been switched off for a while. - Managed fleets that cannot absorb a new major version every two weeks: the Extended Stable channel exists for this. It trades new features for an eight-week cycle and still receives security updates throughout.
- Pinned or frozen versions (kiosks, packaged images, virtual desktops built from a gold image) are where unsupported Edge builds actually live. Inventory the version, not just the presence of the browser.
- Applications that embed WebView2 follow the same update stream. Check that the runtime updates on servers and virtual desktops where browsers are often locked down.
