FortiOS FortiOS 7.4 FortiOS 7.6 End-of-support edge devices

FortiOS 7.4 End of Support: May 11, 2027 and November 11, 2028

By Scott Bissett  ·  Published: September 19, 2026  ·  Reference guide  ·  Dates from Fortinet's product life cycle data, re-read daily.

FortiOS 7.4 has two dates that matter. End of Engineering Support is May 11, 2027: after it the 7.4 train gets critical fixes only, with no regular maintenance releases. End of Support is November 11, 2028: after it, nothing. Both are from Fortinet's product life cycle data, which we read directly. FortiOS 7.4 was released on May 11, 2023.

Why firewall firmware dates deserve more attention than most. FortiOS runs on the device at the edge of the network, and FortiOS flaws appear again and again on CISA's Known Exploited Vulnerabilities list. A FortiGate on a train that no longer gets fixes is exactly the target those entries describe. The hardware has its own end-of-support dates as well; our end-of-support edge device list covers those.
Quick answer: FortiOS 8.0 is supported until October 21, 2030, its end-of-support date. Active support for FortiOS 8.0 ends on April 21, 2029; security fixes continue until that end-of-life date. The next FortiOS version to reach end of life is 7.2, on September 30, 2026. 4 of 8 tracked FortiOS versions are past end of life; the most recent to reach it, 7.0, did so on September 30, 2025. Every FortiOS version's release and end-of-support date is on the FortiOS lifecycle page.

Running FortiOS past end of life?
Extended support past the official EOL date exists for many products in this position — whether it covers FortiOS is exactly what we check. Tell us where to reach you and we’ll reply with matched options and pricing guidance — or an honest “no vendor covers this.” Free, no obligation.

What the two milestones mean

What to do

  1. On FortiOS 7.0 or older: past End of Support. Upgrade now, or replace the appliance if it cannot run a supported train.
  2. On FortiOS 7.2: End of Support is September 30, 2026; see our FortiOS 7.2 guide. FortiOS 7.4 is the next train up, which is why its own dates matter now.
  3. On FortiOS 7.4: regular maintenance until May 11, 2027. It is a sound place to be today. Put both dates in the asset register and plan the next move for 2027, not 2028.
  4. Check the hardware before choosing a train. Older FortiGate models cannot run the newest trains, and that, not the software date, is often what forces a replacement. Fortinet's upgrade path tool and the model's own life cycle entry settle it.
