Cisco AnyConnect 4.x Last Date of Support: March 31, 2027

By Scott Bissett  ·  Published: November 1, 2026  ·  Reference guide  ·  Dates read from Cisco's End-of-Life bulletin for the AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client 4.x.

Cisco ends all support for the AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client 4.x on March 31, 2027. That is the second of two dates in Cisco's end-of-life bulletin for AnyConnect 4.x. The first has already passed: software maintenance ended on March 31, 2024, and the bulletin says no patches or maintenance releases are provided for 4.x after that date. After the 2027 date, Cisco says, all support services for the product are unavailable and it becomes obsolete.

The 2027 date is the end of help, not of fixes. A security flaw found in AnyConnect 4.x today gets no 4.x patch: fixes stopped in 2024. AnyConnect vulnerabilities in CISA's Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog include CVE-2020-3153 and CVE-2020-3433.
Quick answer: Cisco AnyConnect 4.x reached end of life (EOL) on March 31, 2024. Every Cisco AnyConnect version's release and end-of-support date is on the Cisco AnyConnect lifecycle page.

The move to Cisco Secure Client

Cisco renamed the client: the current version of AnyConnect is Cisco Secure Client. Cisco's bulletin says customers with valid AnyConnect or Secure Client term licenses, or perpetual licenses with active support contracts, are eligible to upgrade to the current release at no charge, and that there is no additional charge for customers entitled to the client directly or through another Cisco service.

What to do

  1. Find every endpoint still on 4.x. Check the installed client version on each endpoint; any version beginning with 4 is the line this bulletin covers.
  2. Treat it as unpatched now. Software maintenance ended on March 31, 2024; nothing fixed since then reaches 4.x.
  3. Move to Cisco Secure Client before March 31, 2027. After that Cisco offers no support of any kind for 4.x.
  4. Check the headend too. The VPN client connects to a Cisco firewall or router; their software has its own end-of-life dates on our Cisco ASA and Cisco Firepower pages.
